US authorities have warned of foreign interference in the upcoming presidential elections, especially after it was confirmed that Iran had obtained information from multiple voters.
The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Cyber Security and Infrastructure Agency (CISA) have warned that Iran is targeting US government websites, including electoral sites.
According to the warning issued by the US network “NBC”, Iran is trying to influence and interfere in the US elections scheduled for November 3, spreading propaganda and targeting US election sites on the Internet.
Regarding the FBI warning, it indicated that “an Iranian group is creating fake media sites and falsifying media sites to spread anti-American propaganda and misleading information on voter suppression.”
The warning added: “This group is linked to efforts to publish propaganda videos about voter fraud and the hacking of information from American voters.” The FBI cautions that the video is intended to show that the voting process is unsafe and prone to fraud.
CISA also said that Iranian hackers have managed to obtain voter registration data in at least one state, and the agency did not reveal the name of this state.
Both the FBI and CISA confirmed that the records, which were copied and obtained by Iranian hackers, were used in a propaganda video.
It is noteworthy that the deputy director of National Intelligence of the United States, Amanda Schuch, confirmed to Al-Hurra a few days ago that the evaluations of the intelligence services in the United States concluded since last August 7 that Iran is involved in activities aimed at undermine American democratic institutions.
Shots told the Free that these activities are also aimed at “hurting President Donald Trump and sowing discord among Americans.”
And US Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe announced Wednesday that Russia and Iran had obtained information related to US voter registration.
Ratcliffe said Moscow and Tehran initiated measures designed to influence public opinion in the November elections.
According to the US official, Iran emailed voters in the United States “misleading” messages intended to “intimidate voters, incite social unrest and harm President Trump.”
Iran distributed a video recording indicating that people can send counterfeit ballots, even from outside the United States, according to US intelligence.
