In an atmosphere of increasing tension, a group of families of Armenian soldiers who disappeared as a result of the latest round of fighting in the Karabakh region organized a protest demonstration in front of the Ministry of Defense headquarters in the capital Yerevan.

The media circulated images showing that protesters, demanding that the government reveal available information about the fate of their children and take measures for their return, stormed the doors of the Armenian Defense Ministry.

Defense Minister Vagarshak Harutyunyan and Chief of Staff Onik Gasparyan agreed to host ten representatives of the protesters, while others await the conclusion of the meeting amid an atmosphere of growing tension.

The families of the missing soldiers have been organizing protest campaigns for about a month, but today’s demonstration surpasses the previous tension, especially in the context of reports from the families of more than 100 soldiers in the Karabakh region recently.

The president of the Karabakh Republic, which is not internationally recognized and has the support of Armenia, Aryk Harutyunyan, today admitted the capture of several dozen Armenian soldiers near the city of Khatsabrad in the Hadrot-Bagaragh district, blaming the Azerbaijani side to carry out “continuous provocations”, and announced that measures are being taken to restore these captives.
