On Friday, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev warned Armenia of any possible retaliatory operation following the liberation of large areas in the Karabakh region.

During a visit to the city of Shusha, recently liberated from Armenian occupation, Aliyev gave a speech to a group of Azerbaijani soldiers.

After hoisting the Azerbaijani flag on the mast, Aliyev met with the army commanders and said that the city of Shusha was liberated from occupation thanks to the professional operation of the Azerbaijani army.

Warning Armenia against any retaliation, Aliyev said: “If they think of revenge, they will see our iron fist again, and our response will be stronger this time.”

After his speech, Aliyev, accompanied by his wife Mehriban, visited various mosques in the region, where he donated copies of the Holy Quran to these mosques.

During his visit, Aliyev said that 67 mosques were completely destroyed or damaged under the Armenian occupation in the region.

He criticized Muslim countries (he did not mention them) that establish friendly relations with Armenia, saying: “A country that inflicted this destruction on mosques cannot establish friendly relations with Islamic countries.”

He added that “considering Armenia (for Islamic countries) as a friendly country, hypocrisy and a distraction from the truth,” asking himself: “How can the leaders of Islamic countries be friends with those who destroyed mosques?”

On November 8, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev announced the liberation of the strategic city of Shusha in the Karabakh region from Armenian occupation.

On September 27, 2020, the Azerbaijani army launched an operation to liberate its occupied lands in the Karabakh region, following an attack by the Armenian army in areas populated by civilians.

After fierce battles that lasted 44 days, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced, on November 10, 2020, that Azerbaijan and Armenia had reached a ceasefire agreement, which provided for Baku to regain control of their occupied provinces.
