The head of the Presidential Council of the Libyan Government of National Accord, Fayez al-Sarraj, announced on Friday that he has withdrawn his resignation, which was scheduled for the end of October.

Al-Sarraj decided to abandon his resignation in response to local and international calls, to avoid a political vacuum, he said.

The head of the Supreme Council of State of Libya, Khaled Al-Mashri, called on Al-Sarraj to continue to carry out his duties until his successor is elected to avoid any political vacuum.

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Heiko Maas urged Sarraj today to postpone his decision to leave power at the end of October for another time to ensure the continuation of the talks that began after the ceasefire agreement.

In September, Al-Sarraj announced his intention to leave the post of president of the Council of the Presidency to the Government of National Accord and hand over power to another party at the end of October.
