Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi confirmed on Saturday that the elections will take place as scheduled and that the state-building project will not be reversed.
Al-Kazemi said via his Twitter account: “We are proceeding with determination to implement the government program despite the dissonant voices and fabricated escalation.
We are resolutely proceeding with the implementation of the government program, despite the dissonant voices and fabricated escalation. This negative atmosphere, which is intended to spread and expand, is pointing to Iraqis’ hopes for a better tomorrow …
“This negative atmosphere, which is intended to spread and expand, is pointing to the hopes of Iraqis for a better tomorrow,” he added.
He concluded by saying: “The elections are on time and there will be no setback in the state-building project.”
It should be noted that the Iraqi elections were scheduled for June 6.
However, the High Elections Commission asked the Prime Minister to postpone its date, to which the Council responded, and voted unanimously in its session held on Tuesday, January 19, to set the next October 10, as the new date for early of elections.
While the Independent High Electoral Commission welcomed the government’s response to its request to change the date, many voices within Iraq were not satisfied with this decision.
