“We are not used in Akkar, that women rule us, we rule women.”
With this discriminatory and patriarchal position, Deputy Walid Al-Baarini addressed his audience in Akkar, slamming against the wall the literature of the “Future Movement” to which he belongs, and which was one of the first political parties to bring a deputy to the parliament (Hariri Bay), and the first current represented by a woman who carries a sovereign portfolio in the government (Finance, then Interior, which were assumed by Raya Al-Hassan).
The statement published by Al-Bairini appears to be taken from a speech about an archive in Akkar. In it he says: “Unfortunately, what you worked on is true, and the lamb has been shaved and turned into a body that is surrounded by women.” And he adds: “We are not used to Akkar, that women rule us, we do not rule women.”
Has women’s participation in life and politics become fun for men? At what age does the deputy live? How do you approach the issues? Isn’t it time to get out of this distinction?
