The Russian Defense Ministry announced that the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in the Nagorno Karabakh region began this morning, after the announcement of an agreement to stop the war and restore Azerbaijan in large areas of the region.

The ministry said that Russian peacekeepers began to deploy at 6 am on the front lines in the region, along with the start of the withdrawal of Armenian forces from areas of the region.

The ministry stated that the Russian planes were carrying peacekeepers and their equipment, consisting of 1,960 soldiers, 90 armored vehicles and 380 vehicles, from the Russian city of Ulyanovsk to Karabakh.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the agreements will provide the necessary conditions for a comprehensive and long-term settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh crisis on a just basis and for the benefit of the peoples of Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia announced yesterday evening an agreement that will come into effect from Tuesday to stop the war in the Nagorno Karabakh region, which provides for the return of occupied Azeri areas and the deployment of maintenance forces in Russian peace, and this development comes after Azerbaijani forces took control of much of the region and moved closer to its capital.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev described the agreement as historic, saying the move signifies the surrender of Armenia and the end of many years of occupation, while Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said: “I had no choice. to sign “.

In a direct speech delivered by Pashinyan on his Facebook page early Tuesday morning, he said: “The decision I have made is based on in-depth analysis and an assessment of people who know the military reality on the ground.”

The Armenian Defense Ministry also said that the war is over and there is much more to do.

In a statement, the ministry called on all its citizens to refrain from what it described as acts of sabotage, and asked to learn from the mistakes of the past and look to the future, and build a strong army that the people of Armenia deserve. according to the statement.

The agreement stipulates the declaration of a total cessation of hostilities and the exchange of prisoners, detainees and the bodies of those killed in the clashes.

The agreement obliges Armenia to return sovereignty to Azerbaijan over the Aghdam region by November 20, the Kalbjar region on November 15, and the Lachin region by early December.

The agreement also provides for the deployment of Russian peacekeepers and the withdrawal of Armenian forces from Karabakh during the presence of Russian peacekeepers.

Russian peacekeepers will stay there for at least 5 years, and Putin said the forces will be deployed along the front line in the region and in a corridor between the region and Armenia.

As for the Nakhichevan region, which has no borders with Azerbaijan, the passage will be opened between it and Azerbaijan and even Turkey.

Restrictions on economic communications and transportation will also be lifted, and Russian border guards will control transportation.

The Karabakh region is a region internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, but it is inhabited by Armenians, and until recently, the region was under the full control of Armenians, who were repelled by the Azerbaijani armed forces in violent battles that lasted 6 weeks.

The agreement is likely to be seen as an indication that Russia remains the main arbiter in the region that it considers its own backyard, although the scope of Turkish intervention remains unclear and Ankara’s interest in the region has grown considerably.

Aliyev said Turkey will also participate in peacekeeping efforts and there was no comment from Ankara.

Turkey has strongly supported Azerbaijan, while Russia has a defense agreement with Armenia and a military base there.

Azerbaijani city squares witnessed the celebrations during the morning hours after President Aliyev’s victory speech, and Azerbaijani citizens took to the streets to celebrate what they see as a victory that brought them back to large areas of the region.

On the other hand, the Armenian capital, Yerevan, witnessed demonstrations against Pashinyan, during which protesters broke into government buildings and the parliament building, and protesters chanted anti-Pashinyan slogans and called for the continuation of fighting in Karabakh, which who made Pashinyan warn against pushing citizens to rebel, and said: “Anyone who pushes people to rebel Judiciary.”
