Tensions continued in Armenia one day after announcing the cessation of fighting in the Karabakh region, while the Armenian government denounced the internal demands of the army to overthrow it, and on the other hand, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met in the capital , Baku, with a high-ranking Turkish delegation.

Tigran Avignan, Armenian deputy prime minister, said calls for the army to carry out a military coup to change government, called by political parties on Tuesday following the signing of a tripartite declaration between Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia to end the fighting in Karabakh.

Avignan added that if necessary, the current government would leave and another would be formed, noting that the instability on the home front could be exploited by external forces.

The agreement was received with indignation among popular and political circles in Armenia, as protesters demonstrated yesterday, calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who said it was the army that asked him to work to stop the fighting in the region.

A high-ranking Turkish delegation

On the other hand, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, received today in the capital Baku a high-ranking Turkish delegation, which included Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, intelligence chief Hakan Fidan and the commander of the ground forces umit Dundar.

And the Azerbaijani News Agency quoted Aliyev as confirming during the meeting the importance of establishing a joint Russian-Turkish center in the region.

Aliyev added that he wanted Turkey and Russia to play two equal roles in the Karabakh case, and said he would soon discuss with the Russian side the question of the establishment of the joint Russian-Turkish center.

He stressed that Armenia has a specific schedule for withdrawing from the territory of his country, according to the signed agreement.

For its part, the Turkish delegation congratulated the Azerbaijani president for what he described as the victory achieved in Karabakh, while Aliyev thanked Turkish support and supported his country in the recovery of the region’s territory, as he himself expressed.

Russian spread

Meanwhile, the Russian army announced today that its peacekeepers have been deployed in the Lachin Corridor, which connects Armenia with the Nagorno Karabakh region.

“The advancing units of the Armed Forces Battalion of the Russian Federation took control of the Lachin Pass,” Russian General Sergei Rudsky said in a statement.

Yesterday, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the dispatch of 22 military cargo planes to Karabakh, in compliance with the Russian-Armenian-Azerbaijani ceasefire agreement, which provides for the deployment of Russian peacekeeping forces throughout the line of contact in the region and the corridor connecting the territory of Armenia and the region.

Later, the ministry said that additional planes took off from Ulyanovsk to Karabakh to transport peacekeepers from the mechanized infantry battalion of the central military region, as well as special equipment, vehicles and military parts.
