Adib's apology tops ... And the book goes to Aoun on the weekend?

Muhammad Choucair wrote in Asharq Al-Awsat:

Political sources said that the Lebanese opted for the initiative launched by French President Emmanuel Macron to save their country from economic and financial collapse, thus hitting a dead end, forcing him to request an extension of the deadline he set. for the formation of a government with a reformist mission, which received the required international support, to lift it out of the abyss. It provides the conditions for your financial recovery.

But Macron’s request to extend the deadline – as political sources say to “Asharq Al-Awsat” – put him in front of a new equation that was not taken into account, based on the correlation between saving France’s credibility and restoring its initiative. , and find a way out of the crisis situation in Lebanon, which will only be by forming An independent government of specialists adopts the road map that the French president agrees with the Lebanese leaders, whether official or political.

The same sources believed that the deadline requested by Macron will not be open, but must be fixed in time, and this is what prompts him to intensify his international contacts in order to persuade Washington and Tehran that Lebanon should be neutralized from the circle of political confrontations that intensify between them day by day, and he said that the other option is what he can resort to is to persuade the “Shiite duo” to facilitate the birth of the new government by agreeing to apply the principle of rotation in the distribution of portfolios ministerials between the sects, beginning with his failure to link the Ministry of Finance to a Shiite minister.

Political sources revealed that the two meetings Macron held with the heads of parliamentary blocs in the Al-Pine Palace did not address the application of the rotation in the distribution of bags or the assignment of the Ministry of Finance to a Shiite minister. He quoted a former prime minister who preferred not to be identified as saying that the only meeting that took place between the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, and the leader of the “Future” Movement, President Saad Hariri, did not end as it was reported that the latter agreed that the Ministry of Finance should be part of the Shiite involvement.

He noted that they discussed facilitating the task of the president in charge of forming the new government, Ambassador Mustafa Adib, and that President Berri expressed all the will to accelerate the birth of the government, and this was reflected in his media cabinet in the statement he issued the day after the meeting, in which he would not participate in the government. But he will provide you with all the facilities.

The sources cited – according to the former prime minister – that Hariri discussed with Berri leaving aside the sanctions imposed by the United States on his political assistant, Deputy Ali Hassan Khalil, and once again giving an opportunity to accelerate the formation of the government, because they insist on the success of the French initiative to save Lebanon from the crisis.

When political sources asked about the reasons for Hariri’s reluctance to respond to what was reported to be in agreement with Berri that the Finance Ministry should be part of Shiite involvement, they replied that Hariri prefers to remain silent. Until further notice and don’t get into an argument. Because he does not want to enter into a confrontation that leads to raising the level of tension between Sunnis and Shiites, and that he reserves the determination of the time that allows him to place points on the letters, to avoid continuing to attribute positions dominated by interpretation.

He said that former heads of government confirmed in their consultative meeting the day before yesterday their adherence to the application of rotation in the distribution of bags, and that the problem is not between Sunnis and Shiites, but with large political forces that insist on rotation.

He was surprised that a group of Shiites resorted to limiting it to the refusal of former prime ministers to assign the Ministry of Finance to the Shiites. Progressive socialist, “phalanges”, “forces” and the Maronite patriarch Bechara Al-Rahi? Is it because the Sunnis have become the weakest link in the political equation? Or is Hizbullah not about to clash with all these people, especially the “National Movement” whose leader, MP Gebran Bassil, has proposed a series of positions, the least of which is said to pave the way for their withdrawal? of the “Understanding Mar Mikhael”?

Hizbullah avoided responding to Bassil, even as a way to blame and blame him for what he aired. He is betting that his deal with Berri will push Macron to save his initiative to pressure former prime ministers, to extract their approval for the Finance Ministry to be on the Shiite side.

“Al-Sharq al-Awsat” learned that there are those who advise Macron to save his initiative to appease the “Shiite duo” by keeping the Finance Ministry on his side, as long as the president-designate chooses the name of the Shiite minister he will occupy. this wallet; However, such a proposal will inevitably be rejected not only by former heads of government, but by most of the parties that support the application of rotation in portfolio distribution, including Hezbollah allies.

Not to mention that such “advice” according to political sources will lead to setting a precedent aimed at confirming to the Ministry of Finance the Shiite participation to legislate it, but signing Macron this time, and this constitutes a violation of the constitution and a coup d’état against the Taif Agreement.

Therefore, the exit from the impasse in the negative sense of the word, should Macron hit a dead end, will not be without a courteous apology for the formation of the government; Because the foundations have been laid and the entry to its commission does not proceed.

Consequently, the same sources hope that Adib’s apology for forming the government will take precedence over other options, and Aoun may present a book about it early next week, unless Macron makes a breakthrough in persuading the “duo Shiite “to amend their position. He clarified that Adeeb will not present himself to Aoun in a ministerial training at the insistence of the “Shiite duo” in his position, and attributed the reason to the fact that he is not in the process of dragging the country into a political confrontation that pushes to put a price on Sunni-Shiite congestion.
