It was said in “Al-Akhbar”:
Despite the high number of daily infections with the Coronavirus in Lebanon, whose total number exceeded 134 thousand, with the Ministry of Public Health announcing yesterday that 1,478 new cases were registered (six of them are imported), but the number of residents of the hospital decreased during the last twenty-four hours from 968. In practice, this means that 33 patients left the hospital in one day or that the number of these patients was much greater than that of “new” patients whose condition required hospitalization.
As of yesterday night, the number of critical cases of the total hospitalizations was 347 patients (132 of them with ventilators), while the total of deaths reached 1078 people, with 12 new deaths registered.
In a simple “calculation”, and compared to the number of real injuries, which currently total more than 47 thousand (after recovering more than 86 thousand), it is seen that only about 2% of the injured reside in hospitals, while 98% of patients remain at home, which raises questions The follow-up and follow-up mechanisms that these people receive, especially since the percentage of “vacancies” in isolation centers for infected cases (which were equipped in cooperation with the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the United Nations Development Program, totaling 30 centers) reached 93%.
According to figures from the National Disaster Management Operations Chamber, of the 1,312 designated isolation beds, only 88 are occupied. Why? Health Ministry officials say these beds are intended for those who do not own houses and multi-room houses, and patients often prefer to stay at home. But doesn’t this reality need the stone of the rest of the family? Of course, say the sources of the ministry, indicating that in most cases the majority of the relatives are in quarantine with the patient, unless they decide to stay temporarily in other places. But, does the Ministry of Health have the necessary capacities to monitor the commitment of all these people in quarantine?
In principle, the Ministry officials acknowledge their inability to enforce the commitment of all patients and their “companions” and urge them not to mix, as indicated by the estimated levels of compliance contained in the operating room reports; For example, the percentage of commitment to isolation in the Baalbek and Akkar governorates was only 40%! However, the bet remains, along with the “awareness” of patients, on the “supervisory role played by the narrow community environment of the patient who will inevitably fear for himself.
It should be noted that the Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the municipalities, and some volunteers intend to divide the names of the injured and distribute them to the governorates, provided that they are followed by telephone according to the residence of each patient, “but there are many logistical obstacles that prevent us from knowing if the patient is or In fact, his colleagues stay at home or not.
