Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to act to hold an international peace conference and resume negotiations with Israel.

He added: “I call on the Secretary-General of the United Nations, in cooperation with the International Quartet and the Security Council, to begin arrangements for the holding of an international conference with full powers, with the participation of all interested parties, starting early next year. “
He stated that “the conference should be held with the objective of establishing a real peace process based on international law, legitimacy and specific terms of reference, leading to the end of the occupation and the Palestinian people to obtain their freedom and independence. in its state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders, and solve all the problems of the end state, the most important of them. The issue of refugees according to Resolution 194 ”.
He addressed members of the United Nations saying: “How many times did I ask myself, while preparing my words, what can I say to you again? After all that I have said in previous times, about the continuous tragedy of my people, about their suffering that the world looks at every day, about their legitimate hopes that have not yet been fulfilled for freedom, independence and human dignity like the rest of the world. the peoples of the earth.
He asked: “How long will the Palestinian problem remain without a just solution that is guaranteed and protected by international legitimacy? For how long will the Palestinian people continue to suffer under Israeli occupation, and the problem of millions of Palestinian refugees remains without a just solution, as approved by the United Nations more than seventy years ago?
He continued: “Our Palestinian people have been present in the land of their Palestinian homeland, the land of their parents and grandparents, for more than 6 thousand years, and will continue to survive and live on this land, and will continue to resist occupation, aggression and betrayal. until you get your rights. Despite all that has been exposed and unmasked, and despite the unjust siege that points to our national decision, we will not kneel, we will not surrender, we will not deviate from our constants, and we will win, God willing ”.
The Palestinian president pointed out that “in Palestine, ladies and gentlemen, a living, creative, civilized people, lovers of peace, lovers of freedom, a people that, despite the occupation that besieges their lives, has managed to build a society effective and modern, which respects democracy and the rule of law, and preserves their existence. And its national identity despite all the political and intellectual differences between its various components.
He said: “And here we are, and despite all the obstacles and obstacles that you know, we are preparing to hold parliamentary and then presidential elections, with the participation of all national forces, parties and actors.”
