A US official, removed from the presidency of a major health institution, plans to warn Congress that in 2020 the United States could face a “darker winter” for decades if it does not implement coordinated response tools to the Corona epidemic.
Rick Bright’s alarm about the procedures adopted is expected to be appropriate to combat the spread of the Corona virus emerging in the United States, when he testifies before a congressional committee.
“Our chances are shrinking,” Bright said at the hearing, according to his advance testimony released by Congress.
“If we do not develop a coordinated and science-based national response, I am afraid the epidemic will worsen, prolong its presence, and cause unprecedented disease and death.”
“Without clear planning and implementation of the steps that I and other experts have identified, 2020 will see the darkest winter in modern history,” according to Bright’s testimony.
Bright filed a reporter complaint of wrongdoing last week after his demotion for allegedly opposing the administration’s promotion of President Donald Trump’s scientifically proven treatments to fight Covid-19.
US officials had “rejected” Bright’s warnings earlier this year about the severe shortage of essential medical supplies such as masks, test supplies, medications and a lack of funds, he said.
Bright was removed last month from his position as head of the “Advanced Biomedical Research and Development Authority” (BARDA), the agency tasked with developing a vaccine for the emerging coronavirus, and was transferred to a lesser position at the “Institutes National Health “.
