An infection with the mutated strain of the Coronavirus in the United States raised questions and doubts about the transmission of the virus, after it was discovered that the person had not traveled outside the United States.
The first case of a person infected with the mutated virus, which is believed to have developed for the first time in the United Kingdom, is a man from the US state of Colorado.
The new mutation of the virus is characterized by a faster spreading ability compared to other strains of the virus, as the rate of infections in Great Britain increased after the discovery of the new strain to another level.
Despite the mutation of the virus in the UK, the new strain has been found in more than one country, according to a report by the American Associated Press.
Colorado officials were expected to provide more details at a news conference Wednesday about how the young man, who is still in his early twenties, lives in a rural area outside the Denver metro area.
On Tuesday, State Governor Jared Polis announced that the case was infected with the new strain, indicating at the same time the urgent need for efforts to vaccinate Americans.
Trevor Bedford, a scientist and researcher at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, said the new virus mutation may be rare in the United States, but due to a lack of travel data for the first case, the disease may have been broadcast by travelers from Great Britain in November or December.
Bedford added: “Now I am concerned that there will be a wave of the new strain of the virus next spring, it is a race with vaccine production, but the virus has gotten a little faster.
Colorado officials have reported a second suspected case, with the first and second cases working at the same location at the Elbert County Community Center in the Shimla District.
It is noteworthy that cases of Coronavirus infection in the United States have reached 19.6 million cases, while some 339 thousand have died, since the beginning of the outbreak in the United States.
