On Friday, a strong earthquake struck Izmir, western Turkey, according to the local Anadolu Agency.
A statement issued by Turkey’s Presidency of Emergency and Disaster Management, “AFAD”, said on Friday that an earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale, centered in the Aegean Sea, off the coast of the city from “Safrihisar”, in the west of the country.
The statement added that the earthquake occurred 17 kilometers off the coast of the city of Safrihisar in Izmir state, and at a depth of 16.54 kilometers below the earth’s surface. And it was felt by residents of neighboring states up to Istanbul.
Meanwhile, the governor of Istanbul said that he had not received any news about losses from the earthquake felt by the inhabitants of the city, and the governor of Izmir confirmed that no information had been received on human or material losses.

And the Turkish Interior Minister announced that the information received so far has reported that 6 buildings had collapsed in two regions of Izmir.
For his part, the governor of Izmir confirmed that no information had been received on victims.
For his part, the mayor of Izmir announced that there were reports that some 20 buildings in the state collapsed due to the earthquake.
In January this year, Turkey was hit by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake, which killed dozens, and the earthquake was followed by 147 aftershocks in various parts of the country.
