During a session in which Ashkenazi also participated, the former Saudi official launched a strong attack against Israel, saying that it presents itself as a small country that suffers an existential threat, surrounded by bloodthirsty assassins who want to eliminate it and speaking of its desire to engage friendly relations with Riyadh.
The Saudi prince accused Israel of hypocrisy, noting that at the same time it continues to occupy Palestinian lands, bombing Arab countries and having a nuclear arsenal, in addition to “sending its attack dogs in the international media against Saudi Arabia.”
He said Israel has detained thousands of Palestinians whose lands were stolen in camps, warning that “an open wound cannot be treated with pain relievers.”
The prince asked the occupation to accept the Arab peace initiative, considering it the only way to confront Iran together.
Commenting on these criticisms, the Israeli Foreign Minister expressed his regret for this stance and said that the prince’s statements “do not reflect the spirit of change in the Middle East.”
Ashkenazi indicated that Israel’s normalization agreement with the UAE and Bahrain does not replace negotiations with the Palestinians, but rather represents an opportunity for them, and calls on the Palestinian side to resume unconditional negotiations immediately.
He continued: “Israel is moving from annexation to normalization, so there is a window of opportunity to find a solution to the conflict.”
