Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure reported that six people had been rescued from a team of shipwrecks off the coast of Barton state, west of the Black Sea, and were carrying the flag of the “Republic of Palau”.
The ministry said in a statement Sunday that contact has been made with the company that operates the ship “Arvín” (ARVİN), which is based in Ukraine.
He added that “the operating company reported that the ship’s team consisted of 12 people, 6 of them were rescued, while two bodies were found.”
He noted that the ship was heading to the Bulgarian port of “Burgas” (west of the Black Sea) and sank off the coast of Barton state in northern Turkey due to bad weather. He indicated that the search continues to find the rest of the crew.
Early Sunday, Senan Gunner, governor of Barton state, announced, in a press release, the death of two people and the rescue of 5 of the crew of a ship that sank in the Black Sea under the Russian flag.
In turn, the Turkish Defense Ministry confirmed in a tweet on its Twitter account that it had designated a frigate to support search and rescue operations related to the sunken ship.
Meanwhile, search and rescue teams went to the scene of the accident as soon as they were informed, despite the bad weather conditions, to rescue those stranded in the lifeboats.
The cause of the accident was not immediately known.
The governor of Barton said the lifeboats in which the crew, all Russian, could be seen between 600 and 700 meters from shore, and that a warship had been ordered to reach them.
“We have requested a helicopter if there is an opportunity to fly,” he added.
