A “prolonged stagnation” in the activity of the sun in December

Experts from the Laboratory of X-rays and Solar Astronomy of the Institute of Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences announced that the sun entered a stage of “depression” after the flares that occurred in early December.

And the experts add, on the official website of the laboratory, that this is the case during the New Year holidays and perhaps until the end of January no activity from the sun is expected. That is, the sun will have a calm and comfortable geomagnetism.

According to their data, there are currently no sources of fast solar winds on the Earth-facing side of the sun, as well as on the other side. And the X-rays emitted in 2020 are at the lowest levels. There were no noticeable outbreaks in the last two weeks, even very weak.

According to scientists, this inactivity in the sun’s activity is a normal occurrence for the start of a new solar cycle. “As a general rule, this energy is sufficient for relatively short flares, such as those that occurred in early December, which are often followed by a prolonged recession, beginning in late December 2020 and expected to continue through late January 2021, “the lab statement said.
