The United States Treasury imposed sanctions against 7 individuals and 10 entities of the Syrian regime, including the Central Bank of Syria.

The US Treasury said on Tuesday that the US has imposed Syria-related sanctions, targeting 7 individuals and 10 entities, including the Central Bank of Syria.

“Today, in support of the US government’s efforts to improve accountability and reach a political solution to the Syrian conflict, the US Department of the Treasury (OFAC) punished a high-ranking Syrian government official, to her husband, a member of the Syrian People’s Assembly and their business entities, “the ministry said in a statement on its official website.

In addition, the Office of Foreign Assets Control added the Central Bank of Syria to the list of specially designated nationals and prohibited persons (the list of prohibited persons), confirming their status as a prohibited person, in addition to identifying the properties of persons previously prohibited.

It indicated that the Office of Foreign Assets Control added two people, nine business entities and the Central Bank of Syria to the list of specific people, according to Syrian sanctions authorities.

He emphasized that the Treasury Department aims, through this measure, to discourage future investment in government-controlled areas in Syria and to force the regime into the process facilitated by the United Nations in line with Council Resolution 2254.

Minister Stephen Mnuchin said: “A year ago this week, the president signed the Caesar Act of 2019, which is an important step, confirmed by today’s actions.”

Along with the Treasury Department rankings, the State Department today also classified six Syrians according to Article 2 of Executive Order No. 13894.

The ministry confirmed that the United States will continue to support the Syrian people.

In the same context, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the United States has imposed new sanctions on 18 entities and individuals associated with the Assad regime in Syria.

He explained that the targets of the sanctions have a role in supporting Assad’s war wheel and preventing a solution to end the conflict in Syria.

He stressed that we support the Syrian people and reaffirm our support for the peace map stipulated in Security Council resolution 2254.
