A minister resigns for vacations abroad, Corona spread is maintained

Ontario Finance Minister Rod Phillips, the most populous province in Canada and which was quarantined as of December 26, submitted his resignation Thursday after spending a controversial overseas vacation in the shadow of the Covid pandemic -19, according to a statement.

“After my conversation with Rod Phillips, I accepted his resignation from his position as Ontario Finance Minister,” Provincial Prime Minister Doug Ford said in a statement obtained by AFP.

Earlier this week, Ford expressed “extreme disappointment” with his finance minister, who went on vacation to the French island of St. Bartholomew and asked him to return to the country immediately.

And the minister, who has been in the Caribbean since December 13, his trip was revealed in the newspapers this week, a matter that caused a stir as Canadians were called to stay home amid the spread of the new Corona virus.

In addition, Canadian authorities have advised, since March, to avoid unnecessary travel, in a measure aimed at curbing the pandemic.

“I made a big miscalculation,” Phillips said upon arrival at the Toronto airport before meeting with Ford, offering his apologies.

Phillips’ team posted a video on Twitter on the occasion of Christmas, in which the Canadian politician thanked his citizens for the efforts they were making to curb the pandemic, giving the impression that the man was also attached to his home .
