A media war in lost government time: the crisis of intractable authorship

The government contract has not been dismantled and will not be released soon. Basically, his training doesn’t seem to worry anyone. The rescue, if it is still possible, is not on anyone’s agenda. Simply because no one has a clear vision of the method. Even the expected international support is no longer expected to lift the country from below. However, all the politicians who were asked about the reform respond: We have no choice but to form a government and then implement the demands of the international community. Until then, nobody is willing to do their bit. The legislative authority, which is supposed to be an incessant flame in these circumstances, especially since it is the only one currently able to work, does not budge. All this indicates that everyone is normalized with the current situation or is benefiting from it. But today is not like tomorrow, nor like yesterday. Each day that passes is an additional step towards a comprehensive collapse, whether in terms of the price of the dollar, the value of foreign exchange reserves or the economic and social level. When the Diab government called for mobilization and the elaboration of a recovery plan, the world was a thousand good compared to today. Plans were optimistic and the dollar was supposed to liberalize towards a more realistic rate, at the time, between £ 3,500 and £ 4,297 over the next four years. Even the highest number seems like a dream today, with the dollar reaching almost ten thousand pounds.

Everything that was included in the economic recovery plan that the banks destroyed in cooperation with sectarian leaders is no longer valid today, but there are no clear alternative plans. The designated boss still insists that he has the magic wand. Give me six months, and if it fails, they charge me. Saad Hariri said it one day, then stopped. Nothing suggests that you are in a rush to train. If he is in Beirut, then he does not leave his house and does not communicate with political parties. However, it is pleasant for your associates or close associates to extend your travels. They say it is using its foreign relations to seek help from Lebanon. If this is true, then the first step does not begin without forming a government, but it does not carry with it any vision to resolve the insoluble government crisis. If he really wanted to form a government, he would have stayed in Baabda until the agreement.
The President of the Republic, in return, waits. He refuses to back down on his no-nos. Therefore, the meeting between them became a passing event, or a truce. But as soon as Hariri leaves Baabda, the media disputes will resume and the responsibilities will be scrapped. At the last meeting, it seemed remarkable that the statement issued by the Presidency of the Republic was very interested in confirming that the meeting was held at the request of Hariri, and confirming that it did not bring anything new. The time for protocol is simply gone. Even the reference to “continuous communication” to instill hope, as always happens, is no longer important.
Deputy Gebran Bassil came out in his televised conference yesterday to confirm all of the above. There is nothing new in it and therefore the conference can only be classified in the context of the battle for public opinion. After Hariri elaborated on the responsibility of obstructing the presidency of the republic, and behind it the presidency of the Free Patriotic Movement, “media balance” was necessary. For this reason, Bassil responded to Hariri in all the points in which he spoke, especially the subject of the count, the parity, the baggage of disagreement and the blocking of third parties. He reaffirmed his position, the position of his movement and the position of President of the Republic. But the bottom line is that the government’s crisis is long.
Bassil said: We are cooperating to the fullest, on the basis of preserving the constitution and the charter, and on the condition of respecting the uniform rules. He accused Hariri of returning the country to the era of guardianship, exercising superiority and violating the rights and dignity of others.
Bassil confirmed the following: First, we want a government, since it is not reasonable that the pact wants to be without a government. Second, we want a fast government, since it is not reasonable that the Pact wants to waste the time it has left. Third, we want a government headed by Hariri, despite our conviction that it cannot be a title for reform, and that is why we did not name it. He added: So please be kind and responsible. He is responsible, not us, and that he forms a government without us, that he stops wasting time and discusses others. And after it was previously announced that Hariri is a politician and the condition of jurisdiction does not apply to him, so it is necessary to form a political government. He said yesterday: Form it from capable specialists, based on justice and the constitution, and not on the whim of some.

Bassil: Bring reforms and scrutiny, and gain confidence

Regarding the obstructed third party, despite your indication that this third party is a right of the president of the republic according to the Taif talks, and despite your question about the reason why Christians cannot obtain the third guarantor, while all other sects possess in one way or another the possibility of overthrowing the government, he said: We in this particular government do not need a third party. On the one hand, this is the last government of the time and we certainly don’t want him to resign. On the other hand, because when a strong president wants to properly exercise his role in cabinet sessions, he does not need a third party on a number of issues. On the third side, because in some other matters, we know that we and Hezbollah have a third in theory. He added: Fourth and most importantly, neither the president nor we demand the third plus one, and we don’t lie or hide, and if we want to say it up on the roof and fight a battle for it, we are honored because it is ours. right. And he considered that “the story of the third plus one is a theoretical and invented story to appoint additional Christian ministers, and here is the bottom line and the real problem.”
Bassil announced an initiative “with which the president has nothing to do” in which the Free Patriotic Movement can give confidence:
First, increase the number of ministers from 18 to 20, not to bring an additional Christian minister to the president, we accept that he take the additional maid, but not the prime minister.
Second, with regard to exchanges, we currently insist only on fairness and balance in the distribution of exchanges of all categories.
Third, with respect to naming, we want a principle that applies to everyone. Adopt the principle you want. We accept what Hezbollah accepts to apply to it. When the president-designate says that appointing Sunni ministers is his exclusive right, and takes the name of his minister from the socialist, and waits for the Shiite duo to give him their ministers, then it should apply to Christians, from the president of the republic to all the blocks that wish to participate. If the prime minister proposes that there be an agreement on the names of Christian ministers based on a minister of the king, then there are no objections, but this matter also applies to Muslim ministers.

As for the name, we accept what Hezbollah accepts to apply to it

“If you also disagree with this proposal, we have a second proposal that is easier and more effective,” he said. They distanced us from everything related to the formation of a government, and they trust us in parliament, in exchange for our reform conditions. Assure us reforms and we accept, but we do not want promises and guarantees, we want to pay in advance. Our conditions are easy and are fulfilled a week before the formation of the government, if there is political will: first, the Capitol Control Law is approved and transfers abroad are controlled, second, the law for the recovery of looted and transferred funds , third, the law on disclosure of accounts and public service assets of those who are in a public service. All of them are present and studied in the House of Representatives, and if there is a political decision, in one session, they are all approved. During the same week, we want to give the direct order to Álvarez to start the criminal audit at the Banque du Liban without stopping or going backwards. Thus, with the formation of the government, the scrutiny process in all ministries, departments and councils begins in parallel.

“Future”: the pelvis is not treated
The responses to Basil were not late, but the most prominent came from the person concerned, who was asked to respond to his initiative. The Future Movement considered, in a statement, that “the examination of former minister Gebran Bassil included everything that is applicable to him in full and in detail. Who suffers from the Pact and his political team ”. “The person still resides in Lalla Land, and the Presidency of the Republic must be under house arrest in denial of the changes that emerged after October 17, and considers the resignation of Prime Minister Saad Hariri and his response to the popular movement a way of political perfidy, “the statement said.
He added: “It is regrettable that the Lebanese testify, through Bassil’s verbal grinding, that the decision of the Presidency of the Republic has been transferred from the Baabda Palace to the Mirna Shalouhi Center, and that they listen to the head of the ruling party as if it were the exclusive mouthpiece of the mighty era. But the helpful summary of everything said about kneading: With Gibran Valj, don’t worry about it. In any case, what Mr. Hariri wants to say is what the President of the Republic issues directly and not through mediation, and what he said remains a chimera, pointing out that no one offered Minister Gebran Bassil to join the government, and his attempt making the Lebanese feel pressured to participate is just a laughing matter.
The statement concluded by noting that “the ongoing attempt to stoke the sectarian struggle will not succeed, Gibran, no matter how hard you try to drive wedges between Muslims and Christians.”
