Zarif added that the nuclear deal is still alive, and emphasized his country’s refusal to negotiate it again.
Tehran viewed the US president’s decision to reimpose UN sanctions outside the framework of the Security Council as a threat to global security and regional stability.
A European-American variation
Parallel to the verbal disputes between Trump and Rouhani, the difference in positions between the European countries and the United States with respect to the nuclear agreement with Iran and the policy that should be followed in this regard became evident.
In this context, French President Emmanuel Macron stated that France, Germany and Britain will not “renounce” their refusal to support the reinstatement of UN sanctions against Iran after the United States took the initiative to do so.
Macron said the United States is not in a position to activate the UN sanctions mechanism after its withdrawal from the nuclear deal, warning that this step could damage the unity of the Security Council and the integrity of its decisions.
He added that France, Britain and Germany will continue to demand the full implementation of the 2015 Vienna Agreement on Iran’s nuclear program and will not accept the violations committed by Iran.
On the other hand, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused the Europeans of making no effort to prevent the arms trade with Iran by refusing to support Washington’s decision to reimpose the UN sanctions on Tehran.
In contrast to the criticisms expressed by the European countries participating in the nuclear agreement, in addition to Russia and China, Pompeo considered that if his country did not re-impose the UN sanctions on Iran, the latter would have bought weapons, tanks and systems. of air defense in a few weeks.
