A Syrian newspaper reported that there is an increase in the number of Syrians entering the country from Lebanon, and attributed it to “exempting the poor” from spending $ 100, in addition to a refugee conference recently organized by Damascus.
The newspaper “Al-Watan” quoted a source in Jadidat Yabous, the border with Lebanon, that there is “a good movement for the return of Syrians, whether they are expatriates or refugees, to the country”, and estimated the number of these between 400 and 500 Syrians a day. “And sometimes the number reaches 700 Syrians.”
The newspaper added, according to the anonymous source, that the “poor” Syrians are exempt from spending a hundred dollars in the Syrian pound, which the government had established as a condition for allowing Syrians to enter their country.
The source said that some Syrians are exempt from spending $ 100 “after it is confirmed that their financial condition is bad and there is no such amount with them.”
The source pointed out that the exemption came after presenting “their case to the Interior Minister,” noting that “many of them were exempted.”
The newspaper said: “The increase in the number of returnees came after Damascus hosted an international conference for the return of refugees last month.”
Regarding those who were classified by the newspaper as “illegally” immigrants, the source said that “they do not require any action, but they are settled in any center of the border, which is a normal procedure, and then they enter the country”.
