According to the American Network website, a seven-day average of injuries dropped to 99,052 cases, as of the end of Friday, compared with an average of 239,284 cases per day about a month ago.
In terms of deaths, the country recorded 779 cases, on Sunday, for the first time since October 29, when fewer than 1,000 deaths were reported in one day.
New census data indicate that the number of HIV infections has decreased, to varying degrees, across the country over the past two weeks.
Although the decrease was slight in 10 states, in addition to Puerto Rico, between 10 and 25 percent, 40 states, the District of Columbia (Washington, DC) and the Northern Mariana Islands registered a decrease greater than 25 percent or more.
And in California, which has been hit hard by the epidemic in recent weeks, it has dropped nearly 48 percent in 14 days.
Despite these encouraging data, public health experts and senior government officials warned that “the Corona virus continues to be a threat, and they called for the need to continue with established prevention measures.”
The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr. Rochelle Walinsky, said in an interview with the American Network that “the cases of injuries and deaths are still double what they were during last summer.”
“It is encouraging to see these trends reversing, but they are receding from a very high place,” he added.
