The United States Supreme Court and the United States Congress announced this Monday that the body of Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg will be hidden on Wednesday and Thursday in the Washington Palace of Justice, before being transferred to the Capitol, where the afternoon will receive a patriotic honor on Friday.

The Supreme Court said in a statement that the body of the progressive feminist icon will be buried next week at Arlington National Cemetery near Washington at a family funeral.

The statement adds that the ceremony in honor of the judge, who left on Friday at the age of 87 after losing the battle against pancreatic cancer, will begin early Wednesday when her coffin arrives at the court building where she served for 27 years.

Ginsburg, whose name is abbreviated as “RPG”, will be wrapped in the lobby of the Supreme Court, a huge room distinguished by its huge columns of white marble. The coffin will be placed on the same platform as the coffins of former President Abraham Lincoln, and after him the coffins of many presidents and dignitaries.

Americans will be able to go to the building to honor the afternoon of Wednesday and Thursday, but they will not be allowed to enter the room, but will have to salute from outside, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

On Friday, the body of the deceased will be transferred to the Capitol, the seat of Congress located in front of the Supreme Court building, where an official ceremony will be held in the Hall of Statues, according to the president of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.

In a statement, Pelosi said: “Judge Ginsburg embodied justice, intelligence and goodness. Her death is an immeasurable loss to democracy.”

And on Monday, President Donald Trump said he will announce this weekend the name of the character he will nominate to succeed the late judge.

Ginsburg’s death sparked a wave of grief and anxiety among Democrats, as the arrival of a Trump-appointed judge would put the court in the hands of conservatives for a long time.
