In the study, the results of which were published in the Journal of Fluid Physics, the researchers developed a computer model of a person wearing a three-layer medical mask and tracked the movement of liquid droplets and small particles that could fall on the surface. mask and face, and if they had reached the nose and lungs.

The researchers then studied the efficiency of the filter layer in the mouth, to find that it filters 65 percent of the particles in case they were new, while the percentage reaches 25 percent after using them.

The researchers attributed the results of their study to a change in the shape of the muzzle after use, which affects airflow patterns and reduces its effectiveness.
