In an interview with the official Iran Daily newspaper, Zarif added that “Tehran’s fulfillment of its obligations once again can be done automatically and does not require conditions or even negotiations.”
Zarif argued that “the United States is obligated to implement Resolution 2231 as a member of the United Nations and its Security Council,” referring to the UN Security Council resolution that enshrined the 2015 nuclear deal.
And Abizaid: “If this decision is implemented, sanctions are lifted and there are no obstacles to Iran’s economic activities, Iran will fulfill its obligations under the agreement.”
The agreement offers Tehran to relax international sanctions in exchange for guarantees that the United Nations will verify that its nuclear program does not have military objectives.
Zarif described Biden as a “veteran in foreign affairs” and had known him for 30 years, adding that once Biden got to the White House, he could “lift all these (sanctions) with three executive orders.”
He added: “If the Biden administration does so, Iran’s return to nuclear commitments will be swift. Washington’s return to the deal may take some time. The next stage that will need negotiations is the return of the United States, which is not a priority. The top priority is to end the violation of the law by the United States. “
Meanwhile, President Hassan Rouhani described the administration of President Donald Trump as “rebellious” and said the Biden administration could “restore the atmosphere” that prevailed when the landmark nuclear deal was reached in 2015.
Tensions have escalated between the United States and Iran after Trump withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018 and re-imposed tough and severe sanctions that had damaged the Iranian economy.
As Trump sought to put pressure on Iran and isolate it globally, Biden suggested giving the Islamic Republic a “credible path to return to diplomacy.”
