Belgian pigeon “New Kim”
The Belgian pigeon “New Kim” has gone down in history as the most expensive pigeon in Europe after the “deal of the season”, whose champion was a Chinese businessman.
The 24-year-old “female” pigeon sold for 1.6 million euros ($ 1.9 million).
According to the Belgian pigeon company Peppa, the pigeon was bought by New Kim, a two-year-old girl, who was raised by father Gaston Van de Weir and his son Kurt in Perlar, near Antwerp.
The price of the pigeon surpassed the previous record for the most expensive pigeon in Europe, which amounted to 1.3 million euros, and was the price of “Armando”, a New Chem partner, in 2019.
“Belgium is the birthplace of pigeon racing … The best types of pigeons come from Belgium,” PEPA auction sales representative Chord Lee told Germany’s DPA news agency on Sunday.

He stated that the Van de Waer pigeons are “known throughout the world” but that the pair will be retiring from the sport.
With 445 birds sold, the auction is expected to reach several million euros before the end of Monday.
