Erdogan’s visit comes on the anniversary of the unilateral declaration of the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” on November 15, 1983, and only Ankara can endure it, while the hope that the habit of unifying the island will diminish with the arrival of the Tartars who support the two-state solution. .
According to the official Turkish (Anatolia) news agency, Erdogan’s visit comes amid a tense atmosphere on the island, and the Republic of Cyprus described it as an “unprecedented provocation”.
The Turkish president renewed his intention to “continue survey and investigation operations in the eastern Mediterranean until a fair agreement is reached.”
Erdogan said: “Stability on the island was achieved thanks to the military peace process that Turkey implemented in 1974 after the Romanian side intensified its massacres and attacks, but there are still political problems.”
He noted that the Turkish side “showed very strong will in this regard from the beginning, provided constructive ideas and made sincere efforts, but the solution could not be achieved with the efforts of one party.”
Erdogan stressed that “the European Union has not kept its promises regarding the situation on the island, has not provided administrative and economic support to northern Cyprus and continues to lie to this day.”
