The arrival of the first Gulf leader to Tel Aviv on his first official visit
Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdul Latif Al-Zayani arrives on Wednesday for his first official visit to Israel, after signing an agreement to establish diplomatic relations between the two countries last month in Manama.
Israeli channel “Kan” reported that “the visit is expected to take place on the 18th of this month. It is the first public visit by a high-ranking official of the Bahraini government to Israel.”
On Sunday, the Israeli Cabinet approved the joint declaration on the establishment of diplomatic, peaceful and friendly relations between Israel and the Kingdom of Bahrain, which will be enforceable according to Israeli law, after it was approved by the Knesset on 10 this month.
As presented to the Knesset, the establishment of relations between the two parties includes the recognition of the sovereignty of each party over the other, the right to live in peace and security, the renunciation of violence, as well as the establishment of relations of friendship and cooperation and the resolution of disputes by peaceful means.
This agreement makes Bahrain the fourth country, after the United Arab Emirates and Jordan in 1994 and Egypt in 1979, to establish diplomatic relations with Israel, while Sudan was the last country to announce the normalization of relations with Israel.
