Hours earlier, the General Secretary of the Polisario Front, Ibrahim Ghali, announced the end of the ceasefire commitment with Morocco, blaming the United Nations as part of the responsibility “after its continuous silence on the Moroccan attacks.”
This comes after Rabat announced that it would secure “Guerguerat”, while “Polisario” announced that it was blocking progress.
On the other hand, the Sahrawi People’s Liberation Army announced the attack on several Moroccan sites, in response to the breach of the ceasefire agreement signed between Rabat and the Polisario Front.
Morocco had announced the start of a military operation in the Guerguerat border region, in the face of what it described as “dangerous and unacceptable provocations by members of the Polisario.”
As for the “Polisario” front, he speaks of the outbreak of war with Morocco after the torpedoing of the ceasefire.
On Friday, Algeria asked Morocco and the “Polisario” for a ceasefire, denouncing “energetically the serious violations in the Guerguerat desert” and demanding “an immediate ceasefire and military operations whose results are likely to affect the stability of the entire region. region”.
The statement by the Algerian Foreign Ministry comes after Morocco announced the launch of a military operation in the Guerguerat buffer zone in Western Sahara, which is disputed with the “Polisario” front. The front responded by saying that the operation ended the 30-year ceasefire between the two sides, and that “the war began.”
For its part, Mauritania also called for the ceasefire in Western Sahara to be respected.
