The prosecution of the Beirut Bar Association, in connection with the tragedy of August 4, 2020, announced that it is continuing with the case of the attack on the port.

The statement reads: “The Beirut Bar Association prosecutor’s office continues to follow up on the port attack case and, in light of their meeting today 11/14/2020, shows the following:

First – The office stops before the resentment of citizens and their protest against the course of the investigation, which is correct; It is not possible, after today, to distract people with slogans and rhetorical loose promises not materialized by actions.

The Judiciary, to which we repeatedly appeal to play its full role in this case without any fear, to achieve rights, we ask who and / or what is blocking the judicial process to reach the full truth? We are with you and by your side!

Second – The office regrets that some people have stayed away from the investigation, as it was limited to some people below the highest rank and responsibility, as the office previously confirmed that the judicial investigator is valid to track down any perpetrator, regardless of their position, and that there are no constitutional, legal or political immunities for anyone. We also regret that the investigations were kept confined to negligence without turning to the other aspects of the crime, which are many.

Third – The reasons for the attack are many and the perpetrators are many. As for what is required is one: the audacious decision of the judiciary, that the prosecution be carried out against those who have been demonstrated by the investigations of political and security actors and other perpetrators, all without exception, and that the judicial investigator interrogates them as defendants, and detains them if investigations required this; There is no “adult” in the face of the tragedy and the misfortunes of the nation and the families of the victims and those affected.

Fourth.- This crime is not an ordinary crime limited to its criminal framework, but a major crime that affected thousands of people and shocked the country and caused the destruction of half of the capital and the displacement of a large part of its population. and there are still those who are missing from them to this day, and it requires a living conscience and an exceptional act that goes beyond walking on the road. Regularity; There is no place for those who cannot, and time is running out!
