CNN said the outgoing president’s administration was preventing Biden from accessing a large number of messages sent to him by world leaders.
The network quoted officials from the US State Department that “the letters are still in the ministry and the president-elect will not be able to read them until the current administration allows it.”
This development comes a day after a report indicated that the Trump administration was preventing Biden from accessing intelligence reports, which presidents-elect often obtain during the transition period.
It is customary in the United States for the State Department to support the president-elect in foreign communications, receive international messages, and then send them to him.
Therefore, many countries of the world proceeded to send messages to the ministry last weekend, but it did not relent.
In the wake of the Trump administration, Biden’s team resorted to making one-on-one contacts with foreign governments, while the president-elect made personal calls with foreign leaders.
Biden spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
Biden’s international team contacts were made without the logistical support and translation that the State Department provides to presidents-elect in the United States.
A source familiar with the matter said: “They (the Biden team) prefer to use the resources of the State Department,” adding that “the Biden team has to deal with an unexpected challenge, which is to secure international communications.”
Not only was Biden denied letters and assistance at the State Department, but Secretary Mike Pompeo refused to acknowledge Biden’s victory, similar to what Trump is doing.
“It will be a smooth transition to a second term for the Trump administration,” Pompeo said in a controversial statement.
Fox News reported Wednesday that “Biden is prohibited from accessing intelligence information, due to Trump’s refusal to acknowledge defeat in the presidential elections held last week.”
The US State Department website says: “The transition period is 75 days, during which the outgoing administration informs the new administration of many sensitive files, such as national security and foreign policy, and this allows for the president-elect to make decisions based on good knowledge. “
But it seems that Donald Trump intends to complicate the transition period for Biden, to make it difficult to start his term, but the winning candidate stressed that Trump’s steps will not work.
