Riots broke out in multiple areas of Jordan’s capital Amman and in several governorates of the kingdom, following the announcement of the loss of candidates in parliamentary elections.
Protesters set fire to a main road in the Shafa Badran region, blocking it with stones and vehicles.
A security source said: “Several people who supported one of the candidates rioted in the Shafa Badran area and burned tires on public roads in protest of the election results.”
The source confirmed that the security forces are dealing with the rioters at the scene, and that they were able to end the protest and restore normalcy and arrest several participants in the riots.
Several supporters of a candidate for the parliamentary elections also protested in front of the Tla’a Al-Ali electoral college, after the candidate lost the election.
A security source said: “Information received by the North Amman Police Directorate indicates that several supporters of one of the candidates gathered in front of the voting center of the sports hall in the Tlaa Al-Ali area in protest against his failure in the parliamentary elections. “
The source confirmed that “no comments were received on the shooting.”
In Al-Hamra municipality in Mafraq, protesters set the municipality building on fire to protest the results.
It is noteworthy that the Independent Electoral Commission has not yet announced the results of the Fifth Constituency in the capital, Amman, and the protests were raised based on information posted on social media.
