Since its release in October 2019, the Turkish film “Miracle in Cell 7” (Director: Mehmet Ada Oztiken – available on “Netflix”) has enjoyed great popularity, although it was not without criticism.

And here is Turkey choosing the film to represent it at the 93rd session of the Oscars, which is scheduled for April 25, 2021. This was announced on Tuesday by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism in a statement, adding that the selection was made by the General Directorate of Cinema of the Ministry, with a selection committee. It is made up of 16 representatives of professional organizations in the field of cinema. He explained that a meeting was held today (yesterday), during which 23 films were evaluated, after which the film was nominated.
“Miracle in Cell 7,” starring Aras Bulut Enemli and Nisa Sophia Aksungur, based on a South Korean film of the same name, was the most watched in Turkey last year.
The events revolve around the poor who are oppressed by the state and the courts of law. The hero, Aras Enemli, plays the role of “Memo”, a poor and simple man who is accused of killing the daughter of a military commander, and his little daughter “Ufa” seeks to absolve him by searching for witnesses. The indictment is unfairly attached to “Memo”, and he is forced to fingerprint his confession to the murder, although he is not in his right mind and has not confessed to his crime. The film begins in 2004, at which time the death penalty was announced in Turkey, and “Ufa” grew young and listened to the statement, to return the memory of her people as a child and remember the crime with which her father was wrongly accused before being sentenced to death.
