For his part, the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, affirmed that the sanctions against Bassil “will benefit the Lebanese people, as well as all the countries whose officials we punish for their corruption.” Pompeo, who did not mention the benefit afflicted to the peoples of Iraq, Cuba, Syria, Korea, Venezuela and Iran as a result of the sanctions imposed by his country, declared himself the spokesman for the Lebanese people, saying: “Basilio was deeply associated with Hezbollah. , and the people don’t want that. “
