Bassil responds to the US ambassador

The media office of the head of the Free Patriotic Movement issued the following statement:

In her response to the leader of the Free Patriotic Movement, the US ambassador in Beirut gave proof that there is no evidence of the allegations made against the movement leader of involvement in corruption by announcing that the information on which she relied was not available to its publication. If this data is available and you do not want it released, Representative Bassil requires at least that the US party in question turn it over to the competent Lebanese authorities.

On the other hand, we reiterate that the issue of corruption was not raised either closely or far in the discussions that took place, neither in terms of its inclusion in the punishment nor in terms of Washington’s demands in this regard. Rather, the discussions revolved around understanding with Hezbollah and issues related to it, and it was not the one who forced MP Bassil to ask, reproach, or worry about the type of punishment.

In the end, if US policy so far has failed to break the understanding between the Free Patriotic Movement and Hezbollah despite all the pressures Washington has exerted over the years and despite all the threats and temptations, then the attempt to drive a wedge between them through a press release that talks about “Maeena conditions” Instead of talking about a comprehensive national dialogue track, it is a nice attempt, but it will definitely not succeed in this way.
