The Chief of Defense Staff of the British Army, Nick Carter, warned of the danger of a new world war caused by the state of uncertainty and anxiety prevailing in the world in the context of the economic crisis caused by the Corona pandemic.

In an interview with Sky News to commemorate the victims of the armed conflict, Carter stressed that any escalation of regional tensions or miscalculations can ultimately lead to the outbreak of a large-scale conflict.

The Chief of Staff of the British Army, who has been in office since 2018, said the world has now become a place dominated by great mystery and anxiety, indicating that the escalation of competition in the world has turned into a characteristic of our time.

He continued: “I think the real danger we face is that we are witnessing an escalation that leads to miscalculation in the presence of many regional conflicts today.”

“I say it is one of the dangers and we have to be aware of these threats,” added Carter, in response to a question about whether there is a real risk of a second world war.

The Chief of Staff of the British Army stressed the need to preserve the memory of those who were victims of previous wars, as it is a warning to those who may repeat the mistakes of the past, indicating that forgetting the horrors of past wars can lead some to believing that fighting wars is a rational decision, according to Reuters.
