United States Supreme Court Orders Separate Counting of Postal Ballots in Pennsylvania

On Friday, a US Supreme Court judge ordered that ballots that arrived after Election Day on Nov. 3 be processed separately in Pennsylvania, scoring a minor victory for Donald Trump.

But Judge Samuel Alito did not comply with the Republican request to stop counting letters that were set aside based on his decision, because he wanted the Republican side that could not lose this key mandate for Trump to remain in the White House.

Trump continues to condemn mail ballots, considering that they lead to widespread fraud, without providing evidence of this.

Pennsylvania election law allows ballots to be mailed through Tuesday and arrive within three days of the election.

And it confirms the decision of Judge Alito, which was issued by the local authorities before the vote to classify these files separately, to be able to deduct them from the total in case of invalidation.

The request was submitted by the state Republican Party, which saw that the cards, which represent 4,000 votes, according to CNN, and the majority favor Biden, are not valid.

“Due to the results of the elections on November 3, 2020, the vote in Pennsylvania may determine the next president of the United States,” he said in his application.

Republicans added that it was “unclear whether the 67 (state-owned) districts handled these backlogged cards separately.”

The Republican petition did not contain any evidence that the ballots in question were not currently being separated, but indicated that in the absence of Supreme Court interference, specialized state authorities could change the instructions provided to the electoral boards of the 67 counties.

The state’s electoral director, Cathy Bukfar, ruled out, in statements to CNN, that these cards would affect the result.

Republicans fought for months against the state’s decision to accept the vote-by-mail ballots that were stamped on November 3 and arrived within three days of Election Day, that is, Friday.

Judge Samuel Alito’s decision is conservative, pending examination of the file by the Supreme Court in its entirety, and the majority are Republicans.

In the event that the court accepts the case, the results of the counting of the ballots received after Election Day may be annulled, but this may not change anything in the election results, as it is possible that the number of papers in issue is less than Biden’s votes against Trump.
