Three months after the explosion in the heart of Beirut, and the port resumed its work some time ago, the reconstruction process is still ongoing, so where are the workshops and are there obstacles on the way to its full return to the lifetime?

On the last details, the general director of the port, representing Al-Qaisi, spoke with Al-Markaziyah, noting that “we have a fundamental problem, which is the need for fresh money, since it is necessary to repair the broken parts of the cranes or other things, and therefore the damage and the great impact on the work flow of the port. Finding a solution to the problem that includes all public facilities, not just the port of Beirut. We have sent letters to convey our point of view to the relevant official authorities, awaiting responses, and it takes time, given the administrative hierarchy.

And he highlighted that “work in the port is progressing normally and no vessel is rejected or delayed, so productivity has reached 100 percent.”

As for reconstruction, he explained, “The port does not need” reconstruction “, but modern and sophisticated warehouses, and we requested the help of contractors to repair the cranes, in addition to working on the expansion of the free zone to generate new income , and the most important thing is not to forget the completion of the works on the complexities it faces. “Some ships to take them out of the port, and now we are calling for a tender to sell vegetables from rubble and iron warehouse.

Al-Qaisi noted that “the tender for the reconstruction of new warehouses takes a month to launch, as well as the tender for the container terminal, because new modifications have been made. As for next week, it is supposed to launch a tender for vegetables, and will rehabilitate power plants, as well as water tanks and infrastructure. ”

In a continuous line, and after the Minister of Economy and Trade, Raul Nehme, announced that the only solution is to demolish and rebuild the wheat waste, Al-Markaziyah asked Al-Qaisi for details on time and cost. It leases the land to the ministry, and the matter is purely technical and has nothing to do with administrative matters. ”
