The guessing game continues to learn the results of the US presidential elections. Two days after millions of voters cast their votes, and fluctuating numbers and shifting expectations became a concern of Americans and the world until yesterday at night.
The observers turned their attention to a handful of major states that could decide the fate of the election in favor of one of the White House candidates. While Democrat Joe Biden’s campaign confirmed his “confidence” in winning, Republican President Donald Trump’s side initiated lawsuits that questioned the integrity of the vote counting processes.
Tension between the two campaigns increased as President Trump’s campaign launched several court challenges, including the results of the swing states that Biden won and the spread of skepticism about counted votes in Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada.
– Stop detection
Trump tweeted on “Twitter”: “Stop the vote count!”
As of last night, Biden had made significant progress on the road to the White House and had to win one or two of the remaining major states to become the 46th president of the United States.
Biden had the support of at least 253 high-level voters, if Arizona (11 high-level voters) counted. The Associated Press and Fox News considered that he had won. But other media have questioned the final result of this state by the number of votes that must be counted, and the intensification of competition in the same yesterday. After winning two confirmed victories in Michigan and Wisconsin, Biden no longer needs just the votes of 17 of the major voters to register the 270 necessary votes, which he can get in Nevada (6) and Georgia (16) or Pennsylvania (20) to starting last night.
On the other hand, Trump benefits in Arizona from votes that are counted in succession, since the difference between him and his opponent is reduced. His campaign seemed sure to win in North Carolina and Georgia, and to make great strides in Pennsylvania.
Trump has not indicated that he plans to budge, and his campaign insists he can still win. He also announced that he expected additional legal proceedings to begin in Pennsylvania and Nevada, and hoped to confirm the Republican president’s victory in the US elections on Friday night.
Trump’s Nevada campaign has questioned voter fraud and lack of transparency in light of not allowing the state’s vote counting process to be controlled. Trump “has a good chance and the potential to win the presidential race,” Trump’s campaign manager Bill Stephen told reporters on a conference call. Campaign advisor Jason Miller said he awaits legal action in Pennsylvania to ensure the vote count is analyzed.
And if Trump goes ahead with legal challenges to vote counting fairness, which could go to the Supreme Court, he could benefit from his success in appointing Justice Amy Connie Barrett. While Barrett has not pledged to disassociate himself from any election-related issue that may come before the court, observers caution that the case is considered final in Trump’s favor.
– Head trapped?
If the electoral race is decided in favor of Democrat Joe Biden, he may find himself “trapped” and unable to pass his legislative program, as the performance of the Democrats in the House and Senate was lower than expected and the Republicans managed to maintain, if not strengthen, the majority of them in the Senate. This scenario suggests that Democrats will not be able to erase President Trump’s “mark” and the mark he left on the political scene. Especially with his continued influence over the Republican Party and its priorities, and the growing debate over his bid for the 2024 vote.
