The President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, affirmed “the need for the government’s commitment to carry out a forensic financial audit of the accounts of the Bank of Lebanon, and the importance of this step in the field of reforms necessary to address the financial conditions and economics of the country “.
President Aoun’s words came during his presidency of a meeting before noon today at the Baabda Palace, in which it was decided to “extend the time required to deliver the necessary documents to the Álvarez y Marsal Company for three more months, provided that some documents that have not yet been delivered are delivered during the specified period ”.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Finance Ghazi Wazni, the former Minister Salim Jreissati, the Director General of the Presidency of the Republic Dr. Antoine Choucair and the head of the forensic audit team of “Alvarez and Marsal” James Daniel.
During the meeting, the circumstances that accompanied the implementation of the decision in the audit process were presented.
After the meeting, Minister Wazni made the following statement: “The President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, chaired a meeting this morning at the Baabda Palace, which was attended by Finance Minister Ghazi Wazni, the Governor of the Banque du Liban Riad Salameh, former Minister Salim Jreissati, the general director of the Presidency of the Republic, Dr. Antoine Choucair and the head of the audit team The criminal of the company “Álvarez y Marsal” James Daniel. He dedicated himself to investigating the circumstances that prevented the company “Álvarez y Misal” from carrying out the criminal and financial audit of the accounts of the Banque du Liban.
It was agreed to take the necessary measures to extend the time required for the delivery of all the documents to the company “Álvarez y Messal”, so that they become three months after they were specified in the contract signed with the company on a date no later than 11/03/2020, provided that during the aforementioned extended period some documents are delivered. This prevented its reception in light of the laws and regulations in force.
During the meeting, President Aoun highlighted the need and importance of the government’s commitment to carry out criminal scrutiny in the interest of the public interest, while Minister Wazni stressed that the audit is a reform step par excellence.
