Germany has expressed concern about a “very explosive situation” in the United States, as outgoing President Donald Trump declared victory in the presidential election before the end of the vote count, as announced on Wednesday by the Defense Minister, Annegret Kramp-Karnbauer.
He told the German television channel “CDF” that the outcome of these elections “has not yet been decided, the votes are still being counted.”
He added that “the situation is very explosive in the United States”, warning of a “constitutional crisis” in that country. And he added: “This is something that concerns us all.”
The German minister noted that relations between Berlin and Washington “passed a difficult test in the last four years” under Trump’s presidency, adding: “This friendship is bigger than the issue of the current administration in the White House.”
She said: “In the future, we must make more efforts for our own interests, in Germany and especially with other Europeans.”
French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire confirmed that the outcome of the US elections will have little impact on trade relations between the United States and Europe, emphasizing that Washington will likely not give up its confrontational position, whether Donald Trump wins. or lose.
He told Radio Classic: “Make no mistake. The United States has not been a friendly partner to European countries for years.”
He added: “If the Americans elect Joe Biden or Donald Trump tonight or tomorrow, nothing will change this strategic fact,” considering that “the American continent has separated from the European continent.”
The US administration imposed tariffs on billions of dollars of goods from European imports in the past four years, after Trump accused Trump of unfair obstacles against US companies trying to compete in mainland markets.
His administration has also targeted China and said it has also reduced the US trade deficit by blocking US products even as it exports en masse to the US.
“Basically the only change in American thinking is about China, its relations with China and Asia as a whole,” Le Maire said.
On the other hand, Yaniz Ganza congratulated the Slovenian Prime Minister, Donald Trump, for what he described in a tweet on Twitter as a clear victory in the US presidential elections, becoming the first leader of the European Union to do so.
“It is quite clear that the American people have elected Donald Trump and Mike Pence for another four years,” said the leader of Slovenia, the small country that first lady Melania Trump came from.
“Congratulations to the Republican Party for the strong results at the US level,” added Ganza, a right-wing politician who declared his support for Trump before the election.
And European stock markets registered a setback at the start of their sessions on Wednesday amid uncertainty about the US elections.
After the first exchanges, the European stock exchanges registered a drop of 1.89 percent in Frankfurt, 2.1 percent in Milan, 1.31 percent in Paris and 1.11 percent in London.
Stocks started the week well and posted gains on Monday and Tuesday.
On Wednesday, tension dominated the Asian stock markets, which were awaiting the first results of the US presidential elections, amid intense competition between Trump and his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, with the delay of the release of the results by the vote count in the mail.
