The Banque du Liban confirmed that, “in solidarity with the reviews of the families of Lebanese students abroad and their repeated requests to facilitate the transfers of their children abroad, it is aware of the depth of the difficulties faced by students mentioned above and their families, stating that this matter led him to issue Basic Decision No. 13257 on 8/19/2020 (related to transfers for Lebanese students abroad) ”.
The Central Bank stated in a statement that the issuance of Law No. 193 of 10/16/2020 (related to the transfers of Lebanese students abroad) has become binding on all, and is superior to the aforementioned decision issued by the Banque du Liban.
And the statement continued: “When required, for the effective implementation of Law No. 193/2020, that the relevant authorities issue an appropriate regulatory mechanism, therefore, the Banque du Liban will endeavor with the Minister of Finance to take measures in this regard as soon as possible. “
Previously, Law No. 193 was issued concerning forcing banks operating in Lebanon to spend ten thousand dollars according to the official exchange rate of the dollar for the year 2020-2021 to university students studying abroad.
