Small store owners in France expressed their anger at the imposition of a one-month closure, from Friday to December 1, and denounced what they considered “unfair competition” from larger stores that may remain open, or platforms for shopping online like Amazon.
French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire announced on Sunday that the prime minister could decide to close major stores “whose products are not considered essential.”
In Britain, the country hardest hit by the epidemic in Europe, which recorded 46,555 deaths, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the closure of England from Thursday to December 2, to curb the widespread spread of the new Corona virus, while Wales had previously announced the closure while Northern Ireland is partially on lockdown.
According to British Minister Michael Gove on Sunday, the shutdown could extend beyond this date, which worries the economic community.
“This closure is a nightmare before Christmas,” said Helen Dickinson, general manager of the British Retail Consortium.
In Austria, the Conservative Chancellor, Sebastian Kurtz, announced a “new blockade from Tuesday to November.”
This country, with a population of 8.8 million, registers more than 5,000 daily infections, compared to 1,000 in October, and 1,109 deaths since the beginning of the outbreak.

European countries are the third region most affected by the epidemic, with 10.46 million cases behind Latin America and the Caribbean (11.3 million cases) and Asia (10.57).
