Mohamed Charfi, head of the Independent National Electoral Authority in Algeria, announced that the participation rate in the referendum to amend the constitution reached 5.88% until the eleventh hour on Sunday morning.

The Algerian newspaper “An-Nahar” quoted my honor saying: “The number of voters as of 11 am reached 1 million 298 thousand 639.”

Sharafi added that the total number of registered voters to vote in the referendum on constitutional amendments reached 24 million today and 475,310 voters.

He explained that the number of registered voters at home is 23 million and 568 thousand 12 voters, while the number of registered voters abroad is 907,298 voters, while the number of organizers is 58,286 organizers and 966 observers.

This referendum takes place in exceptional health conditions in light of the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Independent National Electoral Authority developed a health protocol to regulate the conduct of the referendum process, which was approved by the Scientific Council to monitor and follow up on the Coronavirus outbreak.

The protocol includes the headquarters of the Authority, the headquarters of the state and municipal electoral committee, voting centers and mobile offices, as well as voting offices at the level of diplomatic and consular districts abroad.
