Italy added 31,758 new cases of the emerging coronavirus in the past twenty-four hours, and the number of deaths from the virus in the country doubled, to almost 300, on Saturday.
The Italian Health Ministry said that nearly one in 7 people who underwent swab tests had tested positive for “Covid-19” in recent days.
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte previously said that his government is considering taking stricter measures regarding fighting the emerging virus.
Protesters took to the streets of Rome on Saturday to protest the latest measures.
In total, Italy has recorded almost 680,000 confirmed corona cases and 38,618 deaths, which is the second highest number of corona deaths in Europe.
