British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced on Saturday night a blanket lockdown on England for four weeks, in the context of the sharp rise in coronavirus cases in the country.

Without the new measures, Johnson said, “we can see the death toll in this country reaching several thousand a day.”
Bars and restaurants will only be able to serve fast food, non-essential shops must be closed, and people will only be allowed to leave the house for a short list of reasons, including exercise.
And unlike the UK’s first shutdown earlier this year, schools, universities, construction sites and industrial companies will remain open.
Johnson hoped that a set of regional restrictions would be enough to contain the virus, but government scientific advisers predict that in the current course of the outbreak, demand for hospital beds will soon exceed capacity.
Johnson’s decision came against the backdrop of the sharp rise in corona cases in the country, as it surpassed the one million crown mark on Saturday.
On Friday, a weekly survey by the Office for National Statistics in Britain surprisingly showed that around 52,000 cases of Coronavirus were recorded daily, an increase of almost fifty percent over the last week.
