Slovak Prime Minister Igor Matovic said: “The world will follow with interest what is happening in Slovakia, believing that this step will save hundreds of lives.”
Slovakia chose a type of examination that sometimes provides quick results in minutes, but is not considered reliable, such as “PCR” tests, during which samples are taken from the nose and sent to laboratories for analysis.
Participation in the test is not mandatory, but a person who does not carry a statement showing a negative result may be subject to a large fine if arrested by the police, and anyone who tests positive must be quarantined for ten days.
Matovic indicated that “the restrictions associated with the epidemic can be relieved once these controls are completed, or strengthened if the program is not fully implemented.”
Thus, Slovakia becomes the first country in the world to carry out controls for all citizens, and previously “such controls were carried out in all Chinese cities.”
Other small European countries like Luxembourg and Monaco have announced programs to carry out public controls.
Slovakia witnessed a significant increase in new infections, registering 3,663 new infections on Friday, bringing the total cases to 5,591, and 212 people died as a result of the virus.
The government intends to complete the first part of the tests in two days and that “further verifications will be carried out at the end of next week.”
