A woman in the US state of Florida did not allow her labor to prevent her from casting her vote.
Local media quoted election officials in Orange County as saying the woman was already in labor when she and her husband arrived at the voting station.
Karen Briceno González, a polling station employee, said the husband requested a ballot for his wife and then informed staff that she was in the car and in labor, but she refused to go to the hospital before issuing her vote.
Karen added that she ran out to give the woman the ballot and verify her identity.
Karen thought the lady would fill out the ballot later, but was surprised to see the lady fill in the data while doing the difficult breathing exercise.
Eileen Deles, a polling station clerk, said the couple did not say why a woman had to wait until she went into labor to cast her vote.
“Maybe he wanted to come in person at some point, so he was waiting, who knows … but he didn’t want to go to the hospital before casting his vote,” Delez added.
Delise said the unexpected incident put a smile on the faces of all the voting station staff.
“We are very busy, but when something like this happens, it transmits joy throughout the day,” Delise said. “Every election cycle comes with a wonderful short story for us.”
Authorities said the woman’s husband later took her to an Orlando hospital.
