In an interview with “Free Lebanon” Radio, MP Daher linked “the future of the exchange rate to the ability of the new government to carry out the reforms required by donors, establish the state of the banks and meet the demands of the International Monetary Fund, expressing very cautious optimism on the matter. “

Daher explained that “one of the conditions of the IMF is the lifting of subsidies, which means that traders, stakeholders and factories automatically want to buy dollars on the black market to import food, fuel and medicine worth $ 10 billion. “

He added: “The Central Bank pumped 13.18 billion Lebanese pounds in the last nine months, which is more than what was printed in Lebanon from 1975 to 2019, and this means that the money supply has doubled and this is what took the Central Bank to drain the lira from the market for fear of further collapse “, noting that” in the end we will reach a situation in which the dollar and the pound are equally scarce, and there is no positive future for the pound while no official is dare to tell people the truth about the bankruptcy of the banks and the reality of the country’s financial situation ”.

He stressed “the importance of separating the financial problem from the economic situation, since the economy cannot grow as long as it is linked to the financial crisis in which there is no audacious decision to solve its problems.”
